Hypnotherapy
is the use of hypnosis to create the hypnotic state of inner absorption, concentration, and focused attention. This enables the client to focus and search inwardly to access the unrealized ability of the subconscious mind to heal physically and emotionally. When our minds are concentrated and focused, we are able to use our minds more powerfully. Recent research supports the view that hypnotic communication effectively changes aspects of the person’s physiological and neurological functions. The effectiveness of hypnosis appears to lie in the way in which it allows the client's intentions for change to take effect.
The hypnotic state is a naturally occurring phenomenon that we all experience many times each day, although we don’t think of it as hypnosis. The focused states of attention such as being absorbed in thought while reading a book, driving a familiar route, or being engaged in a repetitive activity that we do on “auto-pilot”, is in fact a light hypnotic state. Although we may fail to notice what is happening around us, we are still in control of our circumstances.
A trained, experienced hypnotherapist enables you to access the healing capabilities of your subconscious mind by helping you to appropriately focus and concentrate. In a state of concentrated attention, ideas that are compatible with what the patient wants seem to have a more powerful impact on the mind.
It is important to keep in mind that as with any therapeutic modality, individual responses and outcomes may vary. In most cases, hypnotherapy is beneficial although the extent of the benefit may vary from patient to patient.
